Description
Made entirely from copper, Form Study, Two Tubes is a sculptural wall adornment, that continues Bastianon’s recent work bringing the alchemical to bear on what are normally considered the preserve of industrial processes. Electroplating is used as a way of creating ruptures of form on the sheer surface of the copper, like organic growths, while also colourising the piece using copper sulphate. The results embrace chance in the final form of both the growths and complexion of the blue render, leaving a unique, fractal-like surface on each piece.
This sculptural object is among most materially sophisticated of Bastianon’s works borne of this experimental approach, which has resulted in a visceral and compelling piece.
