Description
Marlo Lyda’s Turning Candle Holders are versatile pieces designed to accommodate both taper candles and column candles. Each holder features candle cups for easy removal and a connector that fits taper to column sections, allowing the candle units to be stacked. These holders are crafted to embrace the smallest Camphor Laurel offcuts, sourced either from the production of Turning or from mills in the Northern Rivers Region.
Associated with myth and medicine in East Asian countries, Camphor Laurel is considered an invasive weed species in Australia; synonymous with the devastation of native landscapes, its timber is often overlooked, poisoned or burnt where it stands. Sourcing the timber for this collection through forest rehabilitation efforts, Lyda draws attention to the potential of Camphor Laurel as a sustainable resource.
Using woodturning, a distinctive pattern emerges, enhanced by charring the wood to blacken it, highlighting the unique beauty of the wood.
A matching Camphor Laurel connector is available to allow combination of the full range of candle holders.
