Description

Marlo Lyda’s Turning (Camphor) collection uses Camphor Laurel timber from the Northern Rivers Region of NSW. Associated with myth and medicine in East Asian countries, Camphor Laurel is considered an invasive weed species in Austalia; synonymous with the devastation of native landscapes, its timber is often overlooked, poisoned or burnt where it stands. Sourcing the timber for this collection through forest rehabilitation efforts, Lyda draws attention to the potential of Camphor Laurel as a sustainable resource.

Using woodturning, a distinctive pattern emerges, enhanced by charring the wood to blacken it, highlighting the unique beauty of the wood.

Adding a touch of character, each Turning (Camphor) Table Lamp also features a custom radial dimmer switch cast in bronze from a section of Camphor charcoal.
The Camphor Laurel veneer shade showcases mismatched veneer sections crafted by a Tasmanian artisan.
All Turning (Camphor) lamps are available in one of three tonal variations: Dark, Blonde and Mixed.
